Boat-tailed Grackle

Quiscalus major
Order Passeriformes
Family Icteridae
Subfamily Agelaiinae

This species does not appear in Hoffmann’s book because it wasn’t a common bird in New York or New England in the early 1900’s. Currently it isn’t common in that area except in the south shore of Long Island, NY., where some populations can be found in places like Captree or Gilgo, among few others. But, in reality, this species is much more common following the coast south, all the way to Florida and the gulf coast up to Texas.
