About

I started this project a few years ago with the goal of adding photographs to Hoffmann’s A Guide to the Birds of New England and Eastern New York (1904). A book that I bought many years ago in Rhode Island.

With the years, the number of photographs has increased dramatically and many of the species of the book are now covered. I still have a bunch of common birds to photograph that hopefully I will be adding in the next years. This site is very much alive.

Additionally, I’m adding birds from my trips outside New England and New York. The intention is to grow the site as my birding journey also grows.

It’s not my intention to compete with any of the very well established guides or websites that are out there. That’d be impossible and very foolish. But I want to believe that putting out there more photographs, audios and videos will always be helpful to somebody.

Plus, organizing the old book texts by species can be in itself a very interesting read as, right now, those books are not very nicely digitized and, in many cases, they are hard to read with lots of typos and scanning errors.

At the worst, this project is helping me to learn more about birds every day.

I hope you enjoy it.
