Lots of Bird Photographs and more!

The main focus of this site is the bird photographs but there are also audios and videos.

All photographs, audios and videos in this site have been taken by Fran Rodriguez (Hipogrito), are copyrighted and cannot be used without the authorization of the author.

Texts

Lots of texts have been taken from old birding books in the public domain. Much of the information in these old books is still accurate and worth preserving. One of the goals of this site is to rescue old forgotten birding books.

Illustrations

Old books also contained amazing bird illustrations that are in the public domain. It’s one of our goals to bring those amazing drawings back to life.

Taxonomy

Bird Taxonomy changes very often. Old book’s taxonomy might not be current, so we’ll try to keep it up to date. As this site is US based, it’ll follow the American Ornithological Society (AOS) taxonomy.

Hipogrito’s Take

This site also has some new comments about the birds based on Hipogrito’s field work and web discussions.

Credit

All texts and illustrations from books will be credited. A major comment from a particular person might be credited but it’s impossible to credit all social media comments and vox populis knowledge.

Photographs for Sale

Some photographs are for sale. Contact us for more information.

“In spite of the fact that many excellent books are now available, the author offers another, both in the belief that there can never be too many good guides, and in the hope that this book has been especially adapted to the growing class of beginners in bird study ”
