[PARROTS: ORDER PSITTACIFORMES]

FAMILY PSITTACIDÆ

[MONK PARAKEET. Myiopsitta monachus]
11.00 in.

The Monk Parakeet did not appear in Hoffmann's book because it wasn't until the 1970's when they started to form colonies in areas outside their traditional territory. Many Monk Parakeets were sold around the world and some escaped forming colonies. Today you can find them in many countries all around the world. The south-west part of Long Island, NY has abundant numbers. Outside Long Island I've personally seen them in Madrid and Barcelona, Spain.
